The end of sailing season is quickly approaching. It is tempting to rush steps or skip them altogether so I can get on the water. It is tough to contain this go fever. For the last 10 days or so all I have been doing is sanding, painting, sanding, and varnishing. Tedious work.
Below are pictures of my current progress. I still have several more days of sanding, painting and varnishing to go.

Still much to do including:
- Several days of varnish, sand, paint
- Mount rudder, cleats, oarlocks, inspection plates
- Decide on final rigging and purchase/mount appropriate hardware
- Register with the state and apply mandatory lettering
- Purchase/assemble trailer
- Get a sail
Hi Mike, how is it going? Did you complete your finishing work yet? It looks good. Maybe if you run out of sailing season before you are ready, you could get some rowing time in, and plan to finish the rigging before spring. The Jimmy Skiffs are fun to row, and you may not be required to register it until next year.
ReplyDeleteHi Ron: I'm done, for now, with the finish. Varnished parts have 3-5 coats. Paint has 2 coats. I was originally planning on 3 coats of paint with a "noslip" finish. I've decided to sail it for a season to decide if I need that third coat and if I need the noslip. At the moment I'm just waiting on delivery for hardware (snaps, eyes, blocks) and a sail. Getting cold here in Michigan. Sailing this fall is not likely but as you suggested I may get out for a quick row. In a week or so I hope to have final boat pictures up.
