First Sail!
It was a beautiful day. Sunny with 11mph winds. I only went out for an hour to test the rigging. Everything went very well. She sails great.
I need to change some cleat locations and add a tiller extension to make her more convenient to sail. The hardest part was actually securing the boat to the trailer. I'll also get a spar/sail bag for transport and storage.
As I was by myself, only 1 picture. I'll add more soon.
Hello, Beautiful boat, I just found you by searching CLC Jimmy Skiff. trying to find as much info as possible as I have been gifted a Jimmy Skiff that needs a little attention. Are you pleased with the sail laced to the mast? I'm going to try to sew a couple reef points in my sail and devise some mast hoops so that I can lower the sail quickly if needed. Any pointers you can pass on now that you've probably sailed her more. thanks, Dave M. https://www.facebook.com/david.myers.7140
ReplyDeleteHi David:
DeleteI'm not 100% satisfied with my current sail attachment process - I'm still experimenting with new ideas. I have a fairlead at the front of the mast for the snotter. When I raise/lower the sail the lacing will get hung up on the fairlead causing binding in the lacing. Thus causing the sail to get stuck 1/2 raised or lowered. The last image in the "Sail Arrived" post you can see the potential problem.(http://buildingajimmyskiff.blogspot.com/2015/10/sail-arrived.html)
Possible ideas to fix this include: replace fairlead with low profile fairlead, looser lacing?,hoops or robands?, or sail track. I have not decided how to proceed yet.
Good luck and if you have any ideas for me, let me know.
